The Spring of 2017 was the first time that I offered an Advanced Graphic Novel class at PNCA, where I teach comics in the Illustration Department. The original idea for the class was to have the students work on longer format, 10-page comics that we would publish into mini-comics or flip books. We’d also cover a lot of professional practices including self-publishing, working with an agent and book publisher, pitches, etc. But when I looked at the roster of the class, I saw this was basically an all-star roster from the last three years of teaching there. I said screw it – let’s swing for the fences. We ended up creating, designing, and crowdfunding via Kickstarter.
